Making the Mundane Magickal

Magick and Spell Work

People tend to believe that magick and spell work is something that must be done a particular way and with special steps in order for it to work or come true. This is not the case. Sometimes the best spells are the ones created as part of our everyday life! Take cooking for example. Cooking is something most of us do on a daily basis. Some see it as a chore, others really enjoy it. When cooking, whether it be dinner for the family or a special occasion, it is important to ensure we are putting the right intent into what we are doing as cooking is the simplest form of spell casting.

When cooking we are taking ingredients, mixing them with herbs and spices, and creating something new. Have you ever wondered why sometimes something you make all the time can taste so different? When cooking it is important that you are in a positive mood and preparing the food with love. If you are in a bad mood, you are putting that energy into the food, which is why it sometimes tastes different. Cooking with love is important as we are going to feed that food to our family and we wouldn’t want to give them something we have made with stress or negativity.

I make an effort to change my mood to positive when I step inside the kitchen. No matter what I am cooking the taste is going to be so much better if it’s made with love. Try it for yourself.

When working towards a specific goal you really want to achieve try to keep it simple. When I am working my magick I try not to make it too complicated as I am less likely to do it. The best magick is that which is easy to do and comes from the heart and intuition.

Spells can be cast in a number of ways

  1. Verbal/Moon
A spell can be as simple as putting the intent out to the universe. I often use the moon cycle to work my magick. Simply asking the moon for what I am looking for. New moon is best for wishes, full moon is best for releasing. I always use the words “with harm to none, so mote it be” at the end of any spell to ensure I am not letting my magick get in the way of someone else.
  2. Candle
Using a candle is a way of physically seeing the magick that is happening. You know the spell is done when the candle has burned all the way down and out. I believe that if you blow out a candle half way through it is stopping the spell from working properly, so it is very important to let it burn out on its own. Sometimes the candle leaves a lot of wax and the bottom which you can use to see if there are any pictures or messages in. If there is no wax there it must have been a strong spell with specific intent. When using a candle for spell work I like to hold the candle in both my hands, close my eyes, and ask the candle what it is I am looking for. I choose the colour of the candle specifically for the spell I am working with. An abundance spell would use a green candle, a love spell would use pink or red. When I have charged the candle, I then light it and leave it somewhere safe to burn all the way down.
  3. Herbs
I make a blend of herbs thinking about what is relevant to what I am working with at the time. Sometimes I pick the herbs from my garden, other times I use dried herbs that I have purchased from Mystical Dragon or the supermarket. Things like rosemary and sage are great for protection and clearing, I often use these around my house. When I have selected the herbs, I mix them together with the intent of what I am looking for. Sometimes saying it out loud, or just visualising it in my head. When the herbs are blended together, I burn them on a charcoal disk.

The most important thing to remember when working with magick is to have a positive intent with harm to none, and to keep things simple. Sometimes the simplest thing, such as cooking dinner, can be creating a powerful spell. Always remember to work only from the light.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.
