The Sabbat Of Imbolc – What Is It?
The eight sabbats of a Witch represent the turning of the Wheel of the year and honour not only the current season but also the stages in the eternal life cycle of the Goddess and God. The sabbat of Imbolc is a Witches’ sabbat, the first of the Spring festivals, and celebrates the first evidence of the return of life with Spring. The Sun is slowly starting to make its return and the very hardiest of plants will begin to grow again from this day forth. It marks the time when the Goddess is recovering from giving birth to the God, who is now a young boy, and whose power is felt and represented by the longer days that warm the Goddess. It is the earliest part of Spring when seeds first begin to germinate. Sabbat of Imbolc is also the holy day of Brigid, a Celtic Goddess.
